“I am very happy serving as the county Recorder and this is where I would like to stay for many years to come. After two years in office I can still say that I am not a politician but a full time hands-on Recorder who works with the staff and will continue working to meet the needs of the public," Radcliffe said.

Commissioner Robert E. Aufuldish has served the past 18 years as commissioner and announced Nov. 18 that he would not seek re-election in 2016 and he would resign effective Dec. 31. The Lake County Democratic Party Central Committee will appoint a new commissioner in January.

The Democratic National Committee on Nov. 24 announced Columbus is one of three finalists under consideration to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

The other two finalists are New York and Philadelphia while the cities of Phoenix and Birmingham dropped off the list. The DNC also announced the potential weeks for convention are the weeks of July 18, July 25, and August 22. The DNC plans to announce a final city and date early next year.
The announcement comes after a round of site visits by the DNC’s Technical Advisory Group to five cities.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, was pleased by the DNC’s choice to include Columbus as one of three finalists.

“Columbus is a world-class, walkable city with great facilities and accommodations – all making it the ideal host for the 2016 Democratic Convention,” Brown said in a statement. “The convention will give the city a platform to display our state’s diverse and innovative capital city. I look forward to working with the city’s leaders to make history and bring the convention to Ohio.”

Earlier this year, Cleveland was selected to be the host city for the Republican National Convention in 2016.

So it could mean Ohio is even more important in the process to select the next president of the United States.

A video posted on the campaign website for Lake County commissioner candidate Kimberly Laurie is entitled “Farewell to the King” and takes a shot at her opponent Lake County Commissioner Daniel P. Troy.

The video initially depicts Troy wearing a red robe trimmed with white and black spots and wearing a golden crown. Viewers may wonder initially whether the video is supposed to be a parody.

Laurie said it is a serious campaign video that uses humor to get her message across.

A male voice begins the 2 minute, 4 second video saying “In a time when our community has been plagued by unemployment, oppressive taxes, and flooding — due to the decrees of their ruler King Daniel P. Troy — citizens decide enough is enough.”

Laurie said the video is the trailer for her campaign message and the theme is part of an upcoming literature piece that looks like a movie poster and will be distributed door-to-door.

Troy said he had seen the video. He called it “fear mongering” and an attempt to “denigrate” the community with the “indication that everything is horrible”.

He said there are untruths mentioned throughout the video and added that he has done many things in his career to help move the county forward.

“It’s the sign of a candidate who has nothing to say about themselves,” Troy said. “It's from someone who has lived here for three years and has no idea what Lake County is about.”

There is a lot packed into the 2 minute 4 seconds video, so view it to judge for yourself.

It’s pretty easy to register to vote in Ohio and you may do so by visiting your respective county Elections Board or following the steps on the Ohio Secretary of State's web page to fill out and mail a registration application to your county Elections Board.

Here are the requirements to be eligible to vote in Ohio, according to the Ohio Secretary of State:

* You are a citizen of the United States.
* You will be at least 18 years old on or before the day of the general election.
* You will be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election in which you want to vote.
* You are not incarcerated (in jail or in prison) for a felony conviction.
* You have not been declared incompetent for voting purposes by a probate court.
* You have not been permanently disenfranchised for violations of the election laws.

So if you're not registered, take a few minutes to become a registered voter.

Ed FitzGerald/John Kasich

The poll suggests that FitzGerald remains mostly unknown and continues to be, according to this and previous polls by the university.

In May, Quinnipiac showed Kasich with a 50-35 percent lead over FitzGerald indicating the challenger has made up a little ground.

The governor also received a 46-30 percent favorability rating and 50-37 percent say he deserves re-election, down from 53-37 percent in May.

The poll indicated 65 percent of Ohio voters don’t know enough about FitzGerald to form an opinion about him.

Collective bargaining for government employees appears to remain an important or somewhat important issue to 80 percent of Ohio voters, the poll said. The issue makes 31 percent of voters less likely to vote for Kasich, with 19 percent more likely and 45 percent who say it will not affect their vote.

Quinnipiac said it conducted the poll from July 24-28 and surveyed 1,366 registered voters by calling landlines and cell phones with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points.
Pepper is running against incumbent Attorney General Mike DeWine.

The FOP is Ohio’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 25,000 members in more than 180 lodges.

FOP President Jay McDonald cited FitzGerald’s eight years in law enforcement and his promise to restore funding cuts to public safety in the endorsement.

David Pepper

“Communities across Ohio are experiencing an unprecedented heroin epidemic, but Ohio’s police have been left to fight that battle without state support,” McDonald said in a statement. “The reduction of the Local Government Fund has also severally impacted public safety across the board. We look forward to working with Governor FitzGerald to restore the local government fund, and to having a true partner in state government once again.”

The state Auditor’s Office is an important watchdog for Ohio taxpayers and an endorsement the FOP takes seriously, McDonald said.

“John Patrick Carney has proven to be a true friend of law enforcement during his time as State Representative,” McDonald said in a statement. “He is a man of integrity, honesty, and has a work ethic we believe will make him an outstanding Auditor of State.”

Pepper is tough, smart, and independent, McDonald said.

“He has vast experience partnering with law enforcement to fight crime. We know Pepper is the best choice to keep Ohioans safe as our next attorney general,” McDonald said in a statement.
